Flamenco Wayfarer

FAQ

How often do you send emails?

I email once a week on Fridays but sometimes when I want to make sure you see something (because there is a special event happening) I’ll email more frequently.

Is it free?

You don’t have to pay anything to receive the newsletter but if you get any value out of it, consider giving some value back. You can return the value you receive by recommending the newsletter to other dancers, leaving a testimonial or by supporting financially. Learn how you can support Flamenco Wayfarer here.

Can I study with you?

Yes. I work with a small group of dancers privately and occasionally teach group classes online or in person. If you’d like to get on the wait list for private coaching click here.

You can also submit videos for technique review.

Who writes this thing?

I’m Renae, a flamenco dancer, teacher and student (of 20+ years) from Australia who has lived and studied in Spain for the last 8 years. During that time I ran the Flamenco Bites website with José Merino and earnt my Diploma of Flamenco Dance from APDE (Asociación de Profesores de Danza Española y Flamenco).

What do you write about?

- My approach to studying flamenco and the insights I've gained along the way

- Lessons learned from my failures and challenges

- Personal experiences and reflections on studying flamenco in Spain

- Practical tips, exercises, and techniques that I'm currently experimenting with in my own practice

Essentially, I cover a wide range of topics related to flamenco dance, with a focus on sharing my own experiences and insights to help others in their own flamenco journeys.

Why ‘Flamenco Wayfarer’?

I chose the name 'Flamenco Wayfarer' to reflect my belief in the importance of exploration and discovery in the journey of studying flamenco. As an art form with deep roots in the oral tradition, flamenco does not have a single source of information that can be relied on. Instead, each student must embark on their own journey of discovery to find 'their flamenco.' This individualised process of exploration is captured in the concept of the 'wayfarer,' which emphasises the value of personal growth and development in the flamenco journey.

...since there aren't any flamenco schools or specialized flamenco centers where I live. I am deeply thankful for everything that Renae and the community members share here. We are definitely stronger together and through this community flamenco is shared, preserved, and deeply valued. Shine on!!!
